TfA joins Audience Access Alliance to ‘Build Back Equal’
At Transport for All, we’re deeply concerned about the impact facing disabled people if the current COVID-19 pandemic undoes our work to secure more accessible choices for them in the cultural, sports, heritage and tourism sectors.
There is a huge desire to take part in inclusive online sessions – as well as in-person events, when government regulations allowed – provided these are accessible to disabled people. The journey to and from these venues and locations must be accessible to this group, too.
It’s why we’re proud to join 11 other audience accessibility organisations in working to support government guidance and the sectors we care about so deeply during this crisis.
The Alliance is made up of:
- Attitude is Everything
- Disability Collaborative Network
- Euan’s Guide
- Hynt
- Performance Interpreting
- Shape Arts
- Signed Culture
- Stagetext
- The Access Card
- VocalEyes
As well as sector champions Andrew Miller and Heather Smith.
Commenting on the formation of the Audience Access Alliance, Katie Pennick, Campaigns Lead of Transport for All, said: “Sports, arts and heritage must be accessible to disabled people – including the journey to and from activities, too.
“It’s why we’re pleased to be a part of the Audience Access Alliance. If we’re ‘building back better’ after this crisis, it’s vital that we’re building back for all.”
