Transport for All supports RMT’s Staff Our Stations Campaign.
We have been informed by the RMT – the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, that London Underground plan to cut 800 station staff posts and to severely reduce its ticket office opening hours. They belive this is a move that will seriously reduce service to passengers and will have a particularly adverse effect on disabled passengers. Transport for All couldn’t agree more!
London Underground’s millions of passengers include many disabled people with a variety of impairments, who often rely on public transport as other options are not available to them. Although some disabled people can navigate the system without help, others require staff assistance, whether regularly or occasionally. For example, Underground staff escort visually impaired passengers through stations, assist hearing and mobility imapired passengers to leave the station in the event of an evacuation and summon medical assistance if and when necessary.
