This Sunday, the V&A museum is organising a special event on Exhibition Road to celebrate ten years of London Design Festival.
Our partner, the National Federation of the Blind UK (NFBUK) will take part in this event to raise awareness about the danger of Shared Space schemes. Exhibition Road is a good example: this shared space is regularly criticized and label as dangerous by Disabled people. Fortunately, Exhibition Road will be pedestrianised on Sunday.
- When: Sunday, 23rd September 2018, 10.30am to 5.00pm
- Where: Exhibition Road (as part of “Exhibition Road Day of Design” organised by the V&A) – FREE EVENT
NFBUK have received the permission from the V&A museum to do some advocacy work on Exhibition Road this coming Sunday. Their objectives are to:
- raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of accessible design to ensure environments are accessible for all, including Blind people, partially-sighted, Disabled and older people.
- get feedback from visitors on their views about Exhibition Road.
- get signatures for NFBUK’s pledge against shared space: ‘The National Federation of the Blind of the UK want a world where blind, deaf-blind, visually impaired people, Disabled, young and older people do not have to share space with moving vehicles on the road’.
About the FREE event organised by the V&A museum: ”Bringing together events by the Brompton Design District, the Design Museum, Imperial College London, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the V&A, this fun-filled day of design, workshops and talks will offer something for everyone, and a unique way into the many marvels of Albertopolis”.
