This week has seen the introduction of some significant changes to the benefits system.
In London, new claimants will to apply for Personal Independent Payment (PIP) rather than the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will be taken from 10 June 2013.

Blue Badge

To qualify automatically for the Blue Badge scheme, you will need to score 8 points or more under the ‘Moving Around’ activity test.

Motability

You can use this scheme to hire or buy a car or powered wheelchair or scooter if you have been awarded the enhanced mobility component of PIP (You also qualify if you receive the armed forces independence payment or war pensioners’ mobility supplement)

The PIP award must usually be for long enough to complete the full length of the chosen agreemen.

Road Tax

The Government has also stated thatyou will be exempt from road tax if your get the enhanced mobility element of PIP. You can also get a 50 per cent discount on your road tax if you receive the standard mobility element of PIP.
