Fifty representatives from disabled and older peoples organisations packed out the Boothroyd Room at Portcullis House for TfA’s pan-London mobility forum.
Members heard from Louise Ellman MP, Chair of the Commons Transport Committee who spoke about the recent Select Committee investigation in access to transport for disabled people in the U.K.
Later the forum grilled Gareth Powell, London Underground’s Director of Strategy and Service Development on the cuts to staff that have been announced by the Mayor.
Visually impaired representative Susanna Moore from Camden spoke about the huge difference staff can make for her and other VIPs when travelling on the Tube.
Youcef Bey Zekkoub from Lambeth spoke about the need for staff to be present when wheelchair users need to use the manual boarding ramps.
Ellen Clifford led a workshop on effective parliamentary lobbying. Members vowed to fight the staff cuts and continue to lobby the Mayor on why staff are needed at stations.
