New site gives lift to passengers

Following on from a similar project in Vienna, a new website has launched to track lift outages on the TfL network.

UpDown London uses the most up to date data to inform people who need step free routes of problems which will impact their journey.

The not for profit project was created by Transport for All trustee Christiane Link in collaboration with Kirk Northrop.

Commenting on the project Christiane said: “I asked TfL to provide a more user friendly overview of broken lifts for a long time but they didn’t. When I got stranded again because of a broken lift, I thought I would provide something myself that I and others can easily access from anywhere with one click.

“It wasn’t difficult, we built this website in a day.“

In addition to the website, which provides more easily accessed detail regarding lifts than the official TfL index, UpDownLondon have a twitter feed providing realtime updates (@tubelifts).

TfL also have a travel alerts service, which additionally details non step-free station issues, and service updates (@TfLTravelAlerts).
