London’s Disability Arts Festival
Transport for All staff and volunteers will be at Liberty Festival this year, with a stall in the Royal Festival Hall.
We’ll be providing information about using London’s transport with a disability; taking note of your transport access gripes, and publicising our work and campaigns for accessible transport.
This year’s Liberty festival has moved from Trafalgar square to the Southbank and will be part of celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain, and the National Theatre as part of the Watch This Space Festival.
Liberty provides a platform for new work from deaf and disabled artists, with music and cabaret, outdoor arts and dance, as well as activities fun for children.
The two main festival locations are the Clore Ballroom, inside the Royal Festival Hall, and Theatre Square, outside the National Theatre. The nearest stepfree Underground stations are Waterloo and Westminster, and you can see photo access maps of the routes to the South bank Centre from Charing Cross, Waterloo and Westminster stations here. The area is well served by buses 1, 4, 26, 68, X68, 76, 168, 171, 176, 188, 501, 505, 521, 77, 171A, 211, 507, D1 and P11.
Comperes Steve Day and Liz Carr will introduce a host of music and cabaret at the Clore Ballroom. Highlights include:
- Heart n Soul’s Jazztronics with VJ’s
- soprano and concert artist, Victoria Oruwari
- stand up from Kiruna Stamell
- electrifying rap from Lady MJ
- French juggling sensation, Juggle Deaf.
Outside in Theatre Square there’ll be exciting arts and dance throughout the afternoon, compered by Julie McNamara, with performances by:
- Deaf Men Dancing with Rachel Gadsden
- Graeae’s Rhinestone Rollers
- StopGAP Dance Theatre
- Cirque Nova
- Fittings Multimedia Arts.
TfA staff and volunteers will be there and have a stall inside the Royal Festival Hall. See you there!
Access and travel information
Liberty is organised to be as accessible as possible for artists and audience and all are welcome to attend.
Stewards will be on hand to help people find their way around the site, with information points at the Southbank Centre and Theatre Square
