This is a complaint we hear on almost a daily basis at Transport for All. Members and non members alike call our helpline to complain about the frequency trip requests are being refused. Often Dial-a-Ride can only service the outward or the return journey, which is of little use many Dial-a-Ride users. Unfortunately, when these trips are not accepted by the user, we believe these do not count as rejections to the internal Dial-a-Ride complaint statistics.

We have been told by Dial-a-Ride earlier this month that a number of improvements to the service have recently been implimented, including improvements to the notorious computerised booking system. This is good news and we hope to see the changes make a real difference to the service. Dial-a-Ride also stated that they now carry out 95% of all trips requested, but we can’t help but wonder how many people have given up even trying to get through on the phone and what significance that has on this new ‘increased’ number.

Transport for All will be pressing the Mayor of London for an injection of resourses into Dial-a-Ride, as part of the Transport Strategy, due for release in the next few weeks.
