Taking a river boat on the Thames...
Taking a river boat on the Thames is an enjoyable way to get around the capital, especially in the summer.
There are several boat companies that operate river boat services, and therefore the services and discounts available may vary. Check before you travel by calling us on 020 7737 2339 or the River Boat Information Line on 020 7941 2400.
All London River Services’ piers are accessible and step-free at all states of the tide; however some ramps may be quite steep. Many river boats are accessible and newer river craft have accessible toilet facilities. Some of the smaller boats do not carry a ramp, so you may not be able to board. A majority of piers have a number of boat companies operating from them, so it’s best to check to see which has the services that best suit your needs before buying your ticket.
Many boat operators offer 50% off the normal advertised adult fare on the production of a valid Freedom Pass at the time of travel. Senior Citizen rates apply to those of pensionable age who are not Freedom Pass holders.
Transport for London has produced a new guide to services available on the River over the coming months.
The 2010 Spring and Summer schedule details the scheduled services that depart from the eight key piers London River Services manages along the Thames, including a frequent service from Embankment to Woolwich Arsenal. With Oyster pay as you go now available on Thames Clippers services Londoners will find it even easier to use the river.
