More than 690,000 older person’s Freedom Passes were on their way in March 2015 according to London Councils. However, the Transport for All helpline is still receiving many calls from people who missed the deadline or haven’t received their pass yet. The Freedom Pass is much loved by disabled and older people as it gives them freedom to get out and about and enjoy all that London has to offer. It is valid on buses throughout England. This article gives you advices on what to do next.

Older person’s Freedom Pass

There are 1.3 million Freedom Pass users in London. Of these, around 860,000 older person’s passes expired on March 31st 2015. It’s not too late to renew your pass. You can still renew it online or send the form back by post. Your new pass will be sent within 1 month.

All the letters to renew older people’s Freedom Passes have now been sent out. If you did not receive a letter, call the Freedom Pass helpline (0300 330 1433). They can send you another letter or give you the unique renewal number over the phone which you can then use to renew your pass online.

All passes renewed by the end of February have been dispatched. If you renewed it before the beginning of March and still haven’t received it, please contact the Freedom Pass Helpline (0300 330 1433). You can track the progress of your application by going to www.freedompass.org, even if you renewed it by post or no longer have your unique renewal number: You will be asked to enter your surname, date of birth and postcode. If you created an email account when you renewed your pass then you will be sent an email when your pass is dispatched.

Don’t worry if you have not received your new Freedom Pass and your existing one has expired. You can still use the old one until the middle of May. Your pass won’t work on the automatic reader but you can show it to the driver or station staff. If you have still not renewed your pass after this deadline, then you will have to reapply.

Julian Bell, Chair of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee (TEC), said:

“Freedom Pass is a crucial service for so many Londoners and we’re really pleased that such a high number of people have chosen to renew online. If you are due to renew your pass but haven’t yet, you should do so right away.”

Disabled person’s Freedom Pass

Around 60,000 disabled persons’ Freedom Passes have been renewed and many disabled people have now received their new Freedom Pass. If you did not receive a letter about renewing your disabled persons freedom pass (and your pass expired on the 31st March 2015) then you need to contact your local Council. It is your borough that gives London Councils the information to send you a new pass.

For further information, visit www.freedompass.org or call 0300 330 1433: After the recorded message press option 1 then option 2. This will get you through to speak to someone. Lines are currently busy so it can take some time to get through.

Do not hesitate to contact our helpline if you have any doubts.
