Working with the Community Transport sector

Part of Transport for All’s Get Moving project, funded by London Councils, is to provide business support to the Community Transport sector in London.

We have been working in association with the Community Transport Association UK to develop a Community Transport Operational Toolkit.

The toolkit was launched at the CTA London roadshow in July 2010 and includes;

• A bespoke training and sector support ‘library of resources’ providing much need targeted support to the capital’s Community transport schemes as well as other hands on business development resources.

• An Operations Manual for CT’s in London. The manual is everything you need to know about the set up and running of a community transport service. The handbook is divided into 3 main sections, operations, policy and finance and covers everything from vehicle maintenance to contingency plans. It is available free of charge to all Community Transport organisations in London and can be used as an induction for new operations managers, a continuous source of reference or a guide to expanding services. • A programme of Training workshop sessions delivered to managers and Trustees of CT schemes including updates on changes to Charity and Company Law, developing project management skills, Financial planning and mergers and collaborations amongst others.

• A specialised Disability Equality and improving Customer care Training programme especially developed for the community transport sector. This has been delivered to a number of managers, drivers and operations staff of CT schemes.

• The development of a Mentoring scheme to provide support for the CEO’s of Community transport schemes.

All sections of the toolkit are available to all Community Transport organisations operating within Greater London.
